Over the weekend we made cut out cookies to decorate for Valentine's day. I have NEVER been able to do cut outs before..and I've tried. Alot. They never held their shape properly for me. I always got them too thin or too thick and they ended up as big blobs or burnt crisps....but for some reason this time was a success and I was thrilled!
I got quite a bit of good advice from friends and found a great recipe. It's tasty, but not too sweet (so you can pile on the icing and decorations!) and holds it's shape amazingly! If you've ever had trouble making cut out cookies this
Paula Deen recipe is definitely the cookie to try.
I did find that I need not refrigerate the cookies for an hour after rolled out, they held up fine after 15-20 minutes in the fridge, rolled out between parchment paper.
If you decide to try them out let me know how it goes. I'm thinking flowers and Easter eggs are next on the list! Now to master royal icing to decorate with.....Hmm...
